A Housing Project at Bursledon, required to discharge overflow from an attenuation pond into the River Hamble which ran alongside on the opposite side of
an adjacent road.
The project was to allow surface water from the attenuation pond to run into the River Hamble at low tide but prevent water from the river to run back into the new housing estate at high tide, a question of approximately 40m.
Previously the area was a flood plain, and the ground water naturally permeated into the river, since the housing development, the ground water and the run off needed to run to the river in a controlled manner.
This was achieved by introducing an attenuation pond, several PCC control chambers and finally a 900 x 600mm Flap Valve chamber, before, running under the
road and into the tidal river. The pipe work was 450mm and this meant employing a 500mm wall mounted Flexseal Flap Valve as a solution.
Working closely with a merchant partner, we were able to offer a suitable product that was not identified on drawings, the contractors were very pleased with the
next day service and within just a few days were able to prevent the new housing estate from rising water levels and allow attenuation pond water to flow away from the site at low tide.
