Established in 1988 in Sheffield, Flexseal’s core business was to design, manufacture and assemble flexible couplings for the repair of sewer and drainage systems.
In 1991 Flexseal increased capacity with the acquisition of a 1022 m2 factory to meet the increasing demand for flexible couplings, which was then followed by further expansion into an 1858m2 factory.
Flexseal generated considerable growth across domestic and international markets during the late 1990s. A new state of the art purpose built production facility (2787m2) was commissioned in Wombwell in Barnsley in 1998 to satisfy growing demand and marked our 10th year anniversary. Over the first ten-year operating period the number of employees had increased from two to over sixty.
During 2002, Flexseal was acquired by the US owned Fernco Group and a global group was created that supplied the most extensive range of flexible couplings throughout the world. Fernco was originally established in Ferndale in Michigan, USA in 1964 and soon developed an enviable reputation for producing couplings. Phenomenal growth during the 1970s led to the business purchasing a 9290m2 building in Davison in Michigan and to the introduction of the first injection moulding machine in 1978.
The growth continued into the 80s and 90s with investments being made in further injection moulding capabilities, process improvements and distribution and manufacturing facilities. Innovations such as flexible elbows and tees made the Flexseal name synonymous with the highest quality of product and service in the industry.
Flexseal remains focused on product innovation, forging strategic partnerships and expanding into new international territories. For our latest news and product updates, please visit our news pages.
